elijah_scoreI just finished a weekend of singing.  Our chorus, Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra, performed Elijah at Hertz Hall on the University of California, Berkeley campus.  What a treat!  On Sunday, I enjoyed the added pleasure of having my family and a friend in the audience.  Elijah and I go back a long way.  I was about nine or ten years old when I sang it the first time and I’ve sung it a couple of times since then.  Today was both present and past–beautiful music in the present and the memory of past performances all rolled into one.

Singing in a production as large and complex as this one is always a reminder that the whole is more than the sum of the parts.  To sing such a work in such a chorus and such a venue enabled me to be part of something larger than myself.  Such a joy.  I love the work, my head was filled with memories, my family and friend were there, and I was fulfilled by the physical pleasure of singing.  What more could I ask for?
